Supervisor of Garden Sites

Opportunity exists at HWA for professional gardeners, with experience, knowledge and enthusiasm for plant culture. Our Supervisor manages up to 20 garden sites and leads gardeners and crew through seasonal maintenance and installation activities. The candidate should have a high standard of presentation and show a talent and desire for inspired plantings.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Maintaining design intent

  • Establish protocols

  • Planning and installing seasonal garden transitions throughout the year

  • Knowing the cultural needs and identification of trees, shrubs, perennials native to the Northeast.

  • Planting, transplanting, pruning, and maintaining trees and shrubs

  • Identifying and treating garden pests and diseases

  • Overseeing hardscape maintenance, including irrigation and lighting

  • Planning and managing new garden installations

Qualifications

  • Education in Horticulture or related field or comparable experience

  • Solid supervisory, project management, and organization skills

  • Horticulture skill set that includes plant identification, pruning and managing plant health and growth, and knowledge of IPM practices

  • A professional, positive attitude as both team leader and team member

Gardener

Operations Manager

An opportunity exists at HWA for an operations professional with experience, knowledge and enthusiasm for garden build and maintenance. Our crew participate in monthly maintenance. The candidate should have a high standard of presentation and communication skills.

Oversee all aspect of operations from scheduling, crew management and training, material sourcing and management, and equipment management.

Responsibilities include:

  • Direct and review the foreman—coaching and training

  • Review jobs for efficiency

  • Responsible for hiring, firing, safety and managing time off within field staff

  • Payroll review and management

  • Review crew scheduling

  • Purchase and allocate equipment

  • Sourcing and buying materials, develop vendor relations

  • Oversee warehouse / nursery and facility management

Service Account Manager

An opportunity exists at HWA for an account manager with experience, knowledge, and enthusiasm for plant design and culture. Our account managers act as primary liaison between the company and client to oversee all services of each assigned account. Services include, but are not limited to, annual horticultural care for all plantings, property enhancements, seasonal change outs, and maintenance for all landscape components on the property such as irrigation, landscape lighting, water features, etc.

Responsibilities include:

  • Scheduling and creating task tickets

  • Create annual maintenance and seasonal display contracts for assigned properties

  • Regular review with maintenance crew

  • Review crew skills and direct training as necessary

  • Maintain regular communications with property contact and/or client

  • Maintain quality control for property and own all aspects of the account

  • Pre-cons for new jobs—onboarding clients

  • Regular site walks through property

  • Upsells and estimates

  • Produce proposals and produce proposal package to present to client contracts

  • Design—sometimes small work—or works with designer

  • Manage install upsells on site with crews (can request a crew)

  • Selecting materials and sourcing materials for upsells

  • Working with subs—schedule pest management IPM, build and arborist work

  • Secure permits when needed

Manager of Schedules & Procurement

An opportunity exists at HWA for a Manager of Schedules & Procurement. This is an operations position responsible for purchasing all stock materials, and materials for projects in production, as requested by Build & Grow Departments. Candidate will interface with clients and garden crews throughout the seasons, creating daily and weekly schedule for all crews for Build and Garden Service projects. This is for an individual with experience, knowledge and enthusiasm for urban garden building.

Responsibilities include:

  • Sourcing plants

  • Purchase orders received, coded, and applied to jobs

  • Build and update material manager for materials and plants

  • Review with appropriate staff for scheduling and project management

  • Manage some bulk inventory

  • Working with Project Managers and Account Managers to assign crews and understand scope of work

  • Understand site access requirements and arrange access as needed

  • Track field work progress

Installation Project Manager

Responsibilities

  • Manage production of multiple simultaneous projects from design and specifications through completion and project review

  • Manage and report on all phases of production, including budgeting, estimating, scheduling, managing logistics, tracking, materials consumption, labor productivity, and problem solving

  • Coordinate and manage subcontractors, including stone masons, carpenters, metal workers, plumbers, and electricians

  • Contract with suppliers and coordinate materials deliveries

  • Interface with clients, building representatives, suppliers, subcontractors, and in-house staff to deliver high quality projects on time and on budget

  • Schedule in-house staff for shop and field production

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Construction Management, or related field

  • 4-7 years related experience

  • Driver License with clean record

Competencies

  • Demonstrated commitment as a team leader and team player with an enthusiasm for creating urban gardens

  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the design/build process, construction methods, and interpreting architectural drawings

  • Expertise in using project management software, such as Microsoft Project, Zoho, Smartsheet, etc.

CAD Operator / Design Assistant

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide presentation drawings of design intention and construction details

  • Project take-offs and estimating

  • Site measurements and base map creation

  • On-site project layout and construction inspections

  • Administrative support to Design department

  • Strong knowledge of AutoCAD and 3D modeling, experience drafting plans

  • Microsoft Office, primarily Excel

  • 3 years relevant experience in architectural/engineering design firm

Highly Desirable

  • Vectorworks proficiency

  • Degree in CAD Drafting

  • Experience with landscape and/or pool design

  • Knowledge of patio building construction

  • Knowledge of Photoshop and Illustrator
