Professional Gardener
Summary: HWA is looking to hire a gardener who can implement horticultural maintenance and seasonal tasks under the direction of a Garden Supervisor while upholding HWA standards of integrity, aesthetics, plant health, environmental consideration, and awareness of hardscape conditions.
About HWA: Halsted Welles Associates is a well-established New York City Design-Build-Maintenance firm specializing in high-end rooftop, terrace, and townhouse gardens. Our talented, multi-disciplinary team of garden enthusiasts includes designers, engineers, horticulturalists, artisans, and support staff who are committed to the creation of restorative spaces that integrate artistry and natural ecological systems into the built environment.
Responsibilities:
Assist Garden Supervisor in garden service maintenance visit tasks
Participate in all horticultural activities including planting, pruning, fertilizing, and seasonal maintenance
Maintain hardscape reflecting HWA standards
Alert supervisor to all site conditions and plant health issues
Observe safety and security procedures; respect confidentiality
Demonstrate thoughtfulness, thoroughness; collaborate with colleagues
Qualifications:
Ability to take direction well and complete multiple tasks with detail and proficiency; problem solving, organizational skills and initiative
Interest in urban horticulture, sustainability, the environment, and motivated towards the development of professional gardening skills
Presentable appearance, professional demeanor, and strong communication skills with supervisors, crew, and clients
Able to regularly move 50 pounds up and down a flight of stairs
Positive attitude, enthusiastic towards regularly working outdoors year-round and in varying weather conditions
Preferred Skills and Experience:
Professional gardening in urban settings, 2 years minimum
Coursework in horticulture, environmental studies, or related fields
Working knowledge of irrigation/lighting systems
Authorized to work in the United States

Installation Crew Member
Summary: HWA is looking to hire an Installation Crew Member to assist the Installation Foreman with garden installations and utility infrastructure inspection, maintenance, and restoration.

Our talented, multi-disciplinary team of garden enthusiasts includes designers, engineers, horticulturalists, artisans, and support staff who are committed to the creation of restorative spaces that integrate artistry and natural ecological systems into the built environment.
Responsibilities:
Install professional, high-end urban landscapes and gardens including the installation of pavers, planter boxes, plants, low voltage lighting, and irrigation systems
Maintain acceptable productivity and quality workmanship levels based on company standards and customer/project requirements
Observe safety and security procedures, report potentially unsafe conditions, use equipment and materials properly
Qualifications:
Take direction well and complete multiple tasks with detail and proficiency; problem solving, organizational skills and initiative
Adapt to changes in the work environment; able to deal with frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events
Attendance/punctuality – is consistently at work and on time
Follow instructions, respond to management direction; take responsibility for own actions; commit to long hours of work when necessary to reach goals
Presentable appearance, professional demeanor, and strong communication skills with supervisors, crew, and clients
Able to regularly move 50 pounds up and down a flight of stairs

Preferred Skills and Experience:
Experience in the landscape field, 2 years minimum
40 hours OSHA Safety Certificates
Basic knowledge of irrigation, 12V landscape lighting, carpentry, and masonry skills preferred
Must have a valid driver’s license with clean driving record
